Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

A bit of nostalgic fun with a nameless enemy that no one can feel sad about seeing get blown up.

Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)

Another fun chapter in this completely engaging series. Fans of the show like me will love this film update. The characters are like old friends at this point.

Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Movies like this are made to be seen in the theater. Dinosaur fights and chases are in your face and felt in your bones. Fun to see a world slowly adapting to life with dinosaurs. Often felt like an Indiana Jones throwback–a compliment.

Rating: C+

The Bad Guys (2022)

Very little to like in this dumbed down toon for kids. The story didn’t make sense. The animation was terrible. The humor was juvenile. Nothing smart or witty for adults to latch onto.

The Outfit (2022)

Could easily be a stage production about a mysterious tailor piecing together a suit of lies. Not enough intrigue or action to elevate the material above being mildly entertaining.

Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

Bonkers. I can’t fathom what the screenplay of this film looks like. The editing must have taken forever. It was a noble attempt to craft such a batshit crazy movie. You’ll laugh at the absurdity of it all, despite it failing as a coherent story. If you are looking for something different, this is it.

Lotawana (2022)

As pointless as drifting in a sailboat with no sails. Aimless and boring.

Bull (2021)

The thing about revenge flicks is you want the person getting the revenge to have some redeeming qualities so that you can root for them as they’re cutting their way through the baddies. Unfortunately, Bull *is* one of the baddies. He’s a bit of a maniac. Very hard to root for anyone, so you’re left with senseless blood and guts.

Fresh (2022)

I watched this without knowing the genre or plot, which made for a bewildering first act. Something felt off, but I wasn’t sure if I was reading the tone right. Nope. I was. Things got quite grisly and dark. Well made, but not something I would suggest to friends.

The Adam Project (2022)

Time travel movies never make sense; this one included. It’s a bit of child-fantasy fun that will make dads feel guilty about not spending enough time with their kids.

The Fundamentals Of Caring (2016)

A road trip movie with some heavy baggage that’s handled with a light touch.

Kimi (2022)

A tight techno-thriller from Steven Soderbergh starring Zoe Kravitz. Timely and hip. Will have you second-guessing the pros and cons of household listening devices.
