Nope (2022)

Peele is more miss than hit lately. The mystery wasn’t all that exciting. The story keeps your attention, but at the end you are left wondering if your in-flight movie time could have been better spent elsewhere. Ho-hum ending.

Black Panther (2018)

Over-hyped. Not the usual origin story, but it seems all superhero movies end up in the same place, with the hero fighting an evil version of himself. Everything is CGI heavy without much depth. The plot was implausible--more so than most from the genre. Mildly entertained.

Get Out (2017)

I’d heard Get Out was messed up, but the fun was in discovering just what kind of messed up we were dealing with. The closest thing I can compare it to is the film Red State. That’s a compliment. Go see it.

Sicario (2015)

The audience is kept in the dark for much of the film, just like our main character. Cinematography and authentic location shoots were high points. However, none of the characters are all that likeable. We are along for the ride on an intense operation, but I never felt fully invested. Not so much a movie as a very well staged reenactment of a covert op.

Welcome To The Punch (2013)

Not terrible, just sloppy storytelling. No depth to the characters. Full of action movie clichés.
