American Fiction (2023)

A clever twist on African American stereotyping in film, but also a story of a typically dysfunctional family coming together in their own way. It doesn’t feel like a comedy, but I laughed out loud a lot. Smartly written and well acted.

The Hunt (2020)

A few twists on the hunting-humans-for-sport genre, of which I’ve seen my fair share. The concept was fun, but I would have preferred to see more hunt and less everything else. The lady-on-lady fight-to-the-death ending was anticlimactic.

Molly’s Game (2017)

For characters that are speaking Aaron Sorkin fast, you may be surprised by the 140 minute run-time. It’s a long movie that is  slick and fun when focused on poker and how Molly’s rise to power came to be. There are flashbacks and flash-forwards that keep the story from growing stagnant. Things fizzled out a little towards the end.
