The Wild Robot (2024)

 

Creative and funny enough for adults to enjoy. They worked in some good messages for the kids.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)

 

I’m glad I watched the first one right before seeing the sequel. Tim Burton brought back a lot of the original characters and gimmicks. Crazy that Keaton basically looks the same after 36 years. Fun to see a continuation of the storyline.

Beetlejuice (1988)

 

First time seeing this since I was a young teenager. Fun walk down memory lane. The movie holds up. I don’t remember Keaton’s character being so perverted. Doubt my parents would have approved me seeing it back then. Tim Burton’s stamp is all over this film. The ridiculous gags are part of the fun. Going to watch the sequel right now.

Orange County (2002)

Funny at times, especially when Jack Black is on screen.

A Mighty Wind (2003)

Watching a Christopher Guest movie is like hanging out with old friends. It's fun to see the same actors take on different roles in each movie, similar to a Paul Thomas Anderson film. While Waiting For Guffman and Best In Show were funnier films (in my opinion), Mighty Wind was still entertaining. Showcased the amazing singing ability of the entire cast.

Temple Grandin (2010)

I recall this winning a lot of awards, yet still not wanting to watch it because it looked like a Lifetime special. I’m glad I finally got around to seeing it. Temple Grandin is an autistic woman in real life, and this film tells her story. Claire Danes is amazing in the roll, as she is with all her onscreen performances. Definitely worth seeing.

Monster House (2006)

There aren't many slightly demonic kids movies on the market. Monster House had some ok laughs aimed at adults, which will be mildly entertained. Young kids will likely be freaked out. Not sure who they were targeting with this movie.

Where The Wild Things Are (2009)

My expectations were very high considering the collaborators on this project. Turns out the Wild Things costumes were the best thing about the film. It's pretty amazing what Spike was able to do with them. The story, however, left me bored and disinterested.

The interactions between characters was childlike—which didn't appeal to me as an adult. Ironically, this movie would bore actual children to tears; when it wasn't scaring the crap out of them. Essentially, this means the movie has no audience.

Frankenweenie (2012)

I’m not a fan of Tim Burton animated films, but I do appreciate his creativity. This was mildly entertaining for me, however, I’m sure fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas will love it.

Away We Go (2009)

I liked the movie, but it sometimes felt a bit forced, like someone trying to mimic Zach Braff. Still, it's an interesting portrayal of a couple trying to find themselves. Some fun supporting characters along the way, especially Allison Janney.
