American Wedding (2003)

 

The series continues to plummet, reaching rock bottom with this latest installment. The first American Pie was great. Stiffler wasn't quite so over-the-top. The comedy was original and funny. 

The second was a little forced, but much of the same level of humor was there. In AW, the actors feel like they are playing SNL sketches of themselves. It doesn't work. They are going through the motions for a paycheck. There are a few laughs here and there, but overall, it stunk.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)

The movie is just ok, but the music is great, especially if you are an indie snob like me. If Nickelback or Hoobastank is your things, you should steer clear.

In Good Company (2004)

Loved it. Paul Weitz hits it out of the park again after About A Boy. Great casting. Credible actors. Witty dialogue. Good drama. Laugh out loud comedy. Emotion. The soundtrack is phenomenal.

Star Trek (2009)

A lunar surfaces' worth of plot holes didn't help this reboot win me over to the franchise.

Searching… (2018)

Creatively edited in a way I’ve never seen before. The film takes place entirely “online”, often from a viewpoint of inside a computer screen. It’s a compelling missing person film with red herrings and twists along the way. But really it’s the unique techie style that sucks you in, especially if you are hip with the world of social media. Enjoyed.

Down To Earth (2001)

This was a pretty good remake, although the original was better. It's hard watching Chris in a PG-13 movie, cause you know he's holding back the whole time. I prefer Rated R Chris.

Some funny supporting cast members and several laugh out loud scenes, but overall it was simple entertainment.

Some decent laughs at the expense of reality TV and current events.

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004)

Like an Asian version of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Really funny at times, ok at others. Plenty of cameos to keep you guessing.

Total Recall (2012)

I need Total Recall to remember all the plot holes this film contained. Nice visuals though.

Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)

I want to write a competent review, but I can’t get that annoying accent out of my head from Chekov’s character. It’s unbearably bad and completely comical. That can’t be what they were going for. Oh, and the movie has all the requisite scenes of our heroes nearly getting shot, speared, exploded, melted, pulverized, etc. It's hard to feel any suspense when everyone's invincible.

On the plus side, it looked and sounded fantastic. There were bits of clever writing throughout, and it was nice to see Sherlock in the starring role of a feature film.

Solaris (2002)

I had to see this one since it was directed by Steven Soderbergh. Strange story and concept, which I was happy to go along with, but there were far too many loose ends. The movie took its sweet time getting to the end, which was left up to the interpretation of the viewer. I hate that. I prefer to see what the writer and director have to say. Left me feeling cheated and confused.
