Gamer (2009)

From the guys that brought you Crank, it's another violent, sexed up, fast paced ride, that doesn't pull over to fill in plot holes. It's a video game version of Surrogates with Bruce Willis. I'll give them credit for having some creative ideas surrounding all the chaos.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)

The movie is just ok, but the music is great, especially if you are an indie snob like me. If Nickelback or Hoobastank is your things, you should steer clear.

Rocket Science (2007)

A smart comedy about a stuttering debater attempting to come out of his shell. Some really competent performances. Nice direction and writing. Consistently funny; often laugh-out-loud.

21 (2008)

The term "loosely based on the novel" immediately comes to mind. Sometimes that's not a bad thing. Here it spells implausibility. Events feel very amped up in order to deliver a Hollywood type film that contains enough eye-catching scenes to fill a movie trailer. For that reason you will be entertained, but left feeling a bit empty. Not unlike the way you feel when leaving Vegas.

Disturbia (2007)

A little bit The Girl Next Door, a little bit What Lies Beneath. Oh yeah, and that Hitchcock movie it was based on, but more The Girl Next Door. Still, the writing wasn't bad and there was some decent jump scenes that will make you spew your drink if you sip at the wrong time. You could do worse.
