American Wedding (2003)

The series continues to plummet, reaching rock bottom with this latest installment. The first American Pie was great. Stiffler wasn't quite so over-the-top. The comedy was original and funny.

The second was a little forced, but much of the same level of humor was there. In AW, the actors feel like they are playing SNL sketches of themselves. It doesn't work. They are going through the motions for a paycheck. There are a few laughs here and there, but overall, it stunk.

Youth In Revolt (2009)

Michael Cera's dry delivery is hilarious. He gets away with saying the most vulgar stuff, simply because he sounds so innocent when saying it. This is not a mainstream comedy at all.

A Mighty Wind (2003)

Watching a Christopher Guest movie is like hanging out with old friends. It's fun to see the same actors take on different roles in each movie, similar to a Paul Thomas Anderson film. While Waiting For Guffman and Best In Show were funnier films (in my opinion), Mighty Wind was still entertaining. Showcased the amazing singing ability of the entire cast.

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (2004)

Like an Asian version of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Really funny at times, ok at others. Plenty of cameos to keep you guessing.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

This is a really dumb movie. I'm not talking Dodgeball dumb or Dumb and Dumber dumb--it's much dumber. This isn't meant as an insult, since I actually enjoy dumb humor and dumb movies. It's uneven, but has enough funny moments to make it enjoyable.
More cameos than one can shake a stick at.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013)

Just as bonkers as the first; maybe more. Laughs were on and off again. The writers threw everything at the wall. Some of it stuck, some awkwardly slid to the floor. The big fight between the news teams was out of control, not to mention chalk full of cameos. This sequel delivers exactly what you expect it to.

Heckler (2007)

If there's one thing you can take away from Jamie Kennedy's documentary about hecklers and critics, it's that we should put more thought into our reviews and criticisms. Reviews like "This movie sucked!" or "Jamie Kennedy is a douche-bag" are the lowest common denominator when it comes to providing feedback. I'm sure I've lowered myself to that bar more times than I care to admit. So, in a sense, I feel Jamie succeeded in his pursuit to diminish, or at least improve the level of heckling in society.

Unfortunately, having had the opportunity to look behind the curtain at who Jamie K really is as a person, I found myself losing any respect I might have had for him. He assumes most of his audience, critics especially, are out to get him. That was never the case with me. Sure, he's no Steve Martin or Ben Stiller, but I never considered him an abomination like Bill Maher or John Lovitz.

In this film he confronts many of his harshest critics, which is a brave thing. But it's almost as if he's trying to make a case that critics should not exist at all, that people should feel sorry for disliking his material and then talking about it. I agree, hecklers are a-holes, and some critics go too far with their personal attacks. (Guilty!) But people should always be free to speak their mind. Just as he says that audience members should walk out of his show if they don't like his material, he should practice what he's preaching and not seek out negative reviews to read if he doesn't like what's being said about him.

For me, the best parts of the film are the many interviews by comedians, actors, and other celebrities. It's refreshing to hear them speak off the cuff. The last deleted scene, a story from Fred Willard, is one of the funniest parts, and should have been included in the film.

Wall-E (2008)

Wonderful. Pixar never ceases to amaze. (Until they finally did with Brave) Can be enjoyed by children as well as adults—no small feat for an animated film. Creative, funny, warm, and thought-provoking.

Monster House (2006)

There aren't many slightly demonic kids movies on the market. Monster House had some ok laughs aimed at adults, which will be mildly entertained. Young kids will likely be freaked out. Not sure who they were targeting with this movie.
