Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)

This felt like a movie conceived for the already converted Harry Potter fanatics. I am anything but that. To me it was another superhero movie, but with magic. If your mind is still soft and undeveloped, you may be entertained by the smoke and mirrors. I found very little of substance beneath the surface outside of a few cute ideas.

Jupiter Ascending (2015)

More like Jupiter Descending. Am I right? The Wachowski’s fall from grace was epic andswift . After such lofty beginnings with the likes of Bound and The Matrix, it’s sad to see them patch together a dozen different sci-fi scripts into one gigantic space cluster f--k. Snazzy visuals and gravity boots can’t make up for that.

My Week With Marilyn (2011)

This is the type of film I tend to put off seeing because I think it will be dull or overly dramatic, but I enjoyed it. Terrific performance by Michelle Williams as Marilyn.

The Good Shepherd (2006)

The pacing is so slow, you'll have a difficult time making it to the end. With no big payoff at the end, even if you do make it, you'll wonder why you bothered. All cloak, and no dagger.

Les Misérables (2012)

Forced myself to watch Les Misérables, the final Best Picture nominee I’ve yet to see. By and large, I hate traditional musicals. Show tunes make me ill. Les Misérables starts off with a grating slave song, and continues to deliver one bleating number after the next.

I was having nightmarish flashbacks to when Chicago won Best Picture in 2002. What a train wreck that was. If they’d shut their warbling mouths for two seconds in favor of more dialogue, I might actually be able to enjoy the film for more than a minute at a time. But EVERYTHING’S got to be a frigging song with them!
