Yet another childhood classic ruined by a second viewing as an adult. Standards were so low back then. Was this written and directed by a teenager? The script makes no sense and the acting is abysmal. Why the hell would any invading army attack a worthless town in the boonies? And how did they get all those tanks there? I’d love to see this movie redone with a competent screenwriter and cast who can act. Hope the remake is better.

Come now, you need to remember the premise, the invading force's target was to secure the US missile silo's that are pretty much all located in the midwest :)
But I concur, it is difficult to watch today, but at the time; it seemed to make sense. I think we tend to forget just how bleak things seemed to look during the cold war; but you can get a sense of it with the movies; so in that respect, movies like Red Dawn provide a magnifying glass to the past.
