The Canadian Best Foreign Film
Oscar nomination. What’s impossible to ascertain, is why the little girl in
Beasts of the Southern Wild—a terrible movie—was somehow more deserving than the
young lead actress in this film. I’ll never understand how they decide who to
reward and who they ignore. It’s certainly not based on merit.
War Witch is a
tough movie to watch, on par with City of God from Brazil. This is about as
realistic a film about African child soldiers as you’ll ever see. If there’s
one that's more realistic, I don’t think I can handle seeing it. If you have the
stomach for it, this is a great film.
